MOMO.
MOMO. is a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist, now based in London, shaped by a life lived across Brazil, Angola, the US, Spain and Portugal. With eight albums to his name, his work has received international acclaim. His 2024 record Gira was named in MOJO’s Top 10 World Music Albums of the Year and featured in Songlines’ Top of the World. His 2006 debut A Estética do Rabisco was hailed as a cornerstone of modern Brazilian psychedelia, drawing from Os Mutantes and the Tropicália movement. Across subsequent releases, MOMO. has refined a sound balancing nostalgia and innovation, earning recognition from artists such as David Byrne and Patti Smith, and contributing to A Tribute to Caetano, the 70th birthday album for Caetano Veloso. His new album Tum Tum Tum, recorded in South London, marks his eighth release and celebrates two decades of songwriting. Featuring Marcos Valle, Nina Miranda, and UK jazz trombonist Rosie Turton, the album blends MPB, Tropicália, Afrobeat, psychedelia and jazz into a warm, fluid and assured body of work. Sung in Portuguese and English, Tum Tum Tum reflects a career shaped by travel, collaboration and continuity — the title echoing the steady pulse that runs through MOMO.’s music. Described by NPR as “an artist who transcends place,” MOMO. continues to expand the boundaries of contemporary Brazilian music.
