Hvalfugl
An underground jazz ambiental artist.
Hvalfugl is a Danish trio formed by Jonathan Fjord Bredholt (piano and harmonium), Jeppe Lavsen (guitar), and Anders Juel Bomholt (double bass). Our music is rooted in a shared love of traditional, melancholic Nordic music and improvisation-based European jazz, evolving into a sound defined by melodic and meditative vibes. The melody is always at the center of our music. That is where every piece begins. From there, we build a world around it, shaping harmonies, sounds and textures that bring out its emotion. We try to tell a story though the melody with each piece, and it is our way to communicate the music without words, allowing the music to become the storyteller. We love to expand our musical universe by collaborating with guest musicians, incorporating their unique sounds to add new dimensions to our music. Over the years, we’ve worked with a variety of talented danish artists, bringing in strings, horns, and drums to expand the musical universe. Each collaboration adds a fresh layer, transforming the atmosphere of our music in interesting ways and creating something distinct and unique with every collaboration.
