Big K.R.I.T.
A nostalgic southern hip hop artist.
Big K.R.I.T. has always been lead by music’s power to transform and change anyone it touches. The Meridian, Mississippi native grew up listening to classic records in his grandmother’s house, later discovering revered artists such as Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch, and Bobby Womack. Today the music he puts out is a great blend of those soulful musicians, as well as hip hop legends like 8Balll & MJG, UGK, Scarface, and Outkast. He singlehandedly and masterfully resurrects the rich heritage if southern hip hop during its prime in the 90’s. “I’m reintroducing a type of sound from the south that a lot of the newer generation doesn’t know about. As well as reminding the older generation of what southern hip-hop used to sound like,” explains K.R.I.T. “I was influenced by the third coast as far as Texas, Tennessee, and Atlanta, so I am always trying to put all those sounds that I grew up listening to together to make a sound for myself.” K.R.I.T. is an acronym for King Remembered In Time, and from the sound of things he will be just that.
