Hello, my name is Naima Joris. I have faced significant challenges in life and inherited some musical talent—though I never initially aspired to perform on stage. However, music became a source of solace, when I began singing late in life as a means of coping. In June 2020, I experienced a breakthrough by sharing a song on Facebook for the first time—something I now realize I should have done much earlier. This pivotal moment gave me the opportunity to create a heartfelt tribute to my late sister. Together with my brother, who produced it, we released this tribute as my debut EP. Tracks like Bellybutton, Hopeful Again, and Suddenly are posthumous collaborations with my late sister, who left behind lyrics that I chose to bring to life through song. In doing so, I transformed my grief into music—a concept that resonates with the essence of the blues, even if the style differs. For me, music is less about adhering to a particular genre and more about mastering my breath, finding calm amidst chaos, and creating a space for emotional vulnerability. In today’s fast-paced and turbulent world, I see music as a means to reconnect with myself and others on a deeper level. Thank you for listening, for sharing, and for caring.
